I just got your newsletter in my letterbox. I’ll write you in English because I presume you do not speak Dutch or Portuguese, which is what I speak. It is a very depressing read. While I symphatise with a lot of what you say in terms of the problems and inequalities in Brussels, I couldn’t disagree more with your solutions. It is interesting to note that so-called progressive forces as yourself think it’s fun to rip up community efforts to make the places and spaces we live in a little bit more pleasant, healthier and less threatening for ourselves and our children (I have a young child).
You are clearly the one/the people behind the ripping up of the portraits around Rue Gray. I presume you are proud of that – it is ridiculous.

If you want to create symphatisers, let me tell you one thing – this is not the way to do it. You are attacking the very support base from which you may get sympathy. Do you really think because people are poor they want to live in the midst of tags, ripped up paper, smashed up advertisement boards? We all want to give our children some hope for a better and more beautiful future. You smashing this up time and time again, without even touching upon the underlying dynamics of exclusion, exploitation and marginalisation is very depressing and is not leading the city anywhere.

    Groeten,
    Maria Lisa
